8th of March…

Artemisia Gentileschi, Judith slaying Holofernes, c.1612 -13
Artemisia Gentileschi, Judith slaying Holofernes, c.1612 -13

*Historical reading: Judith Slaying Holofernes;
*reading of critics: the arms of Holofernes are actually the legs of a mother who is having a baby, so the painter wants to represent a break with the past;
*my personal suspicion, not as a technician: Artemisia Gentileschi, given some biographical events, wants to represent a very precise cut, to take revenge off the male sex, and to express rebellion…
Good 8th of March to those who celebrate!
*Lettura storica: Giuditta che decapita Oloferne;
*lettura dei critici: le braccia di Oloferne sono in realtà le gambe di una donna che sta partorendo, pertanto la pittrice vuol rappresentare un taglio con il passato;
*sospetto mio, non da tecnico: Artemisia Gentileschi, complici alcune vicende biografiche, vuol rappresentare un taglio molto preciso, per vendicarsi del sesso maschile ed esprimere ribellione…
Buon 8 marzo a chi lo festeggia!
