put lanterns in your Eves…

New Year’s Eve is approaching and it is up an awareness campaign toward the traditional fireworks, firecrackers, rockets and so on.
In many cities and towns, in Italy and abroad, the firecrackers have been banned. Every year there are accidents, even serious, and the animals are terrified and die.
According to WWF,
In molte città e centri abitati, in Italia e all’estero, i botti sono stati proibiti.

“the phenomenon particularly hits the birds, including no shortage of prey, frightened, lose their sense of direction and make an escape and hit an instinctive deadly obstacles due to poor visibility. Other birds instead, they leave their dorm winter wandering kilometers. Finding no other refuge, they die for the cold and the stress induced by the fireckrackers and fireworks. (…) The WWF points out however what happens to dogs, cats and small pets which they remain almost frightened to death for the fireworks of the New Year’s Eve; this is due in particular to their hearing threshold infinitely more developed and sensitive than that of humans. Man has a hearing with a perception between the frequencies called infrasound, at around 15 hertz, and those referred to as ultrasonic, above 15,000 hertz. Dogs and cats, however, demonstrate hearing abilities of the far superior: the dog up to about 60,000 hertz while the cat up to 70,000 hertz.
WWF therefore asks not to use the barrels as well as to prevent serious accidents to humans, even to save hundreds of animals from death, from probable accidents and trauma stress.”(www.geapress.org)

The Italian slogan is: “A broken bang for you, a broken heart to him.”
My advice is romantic: why not use the typical oriental -festivities lanterns? it is more elegant, more romantic, it costs very little … and is so Rapunzel…
