Luis Sepúlveda, one of the giants of the 20th Century, the “citizen before than a writer”, the writer who chose literature to “give voice to those who have no voice”, died today in Oviedo, Spain, because of the Coronavirus (COVID -19).
A natural born fighter, arrested twice and sentenced to exile during the dictatorship of Pinochet, enemy of neoliberalism, convinced ecologist, Sepúlveda, who had regained Chilean citizenship in 2017, has been fighting against the insidious and sneaky enemy until the last.
Very famous in Italy as well as in the rest of the world, he saw one of his tales, ‘History of a seagull and a cat who taught her to fly’ (in original ‘Historia de una gaviota y del gato que le enseñó a volar’, in Italian ‘Storia di una gabbianella e di un gatto che le insegnò a volare’), changed into a successful animated film by Enzo d’Alò.
