Saint Seiya at Hollywood (and on Netflix as well…)

I have been often wondering what kind of sort the anime ‘Saint Seiya’ would have passed should it be treated by an American, perhaps in Hollywood, company. I mean: the Saint Seiya lovers of course appreciated Masami Kurumada’s original concept, Kurumada, Himeno and Shingo Araki’s original drawing, Seiji Yokohama’s original music. But… What if those assets, such a powerful brand, that has already inspired a number of television anime, OVAs, anime films, and spin off manga, would have been treated by stars & strips entertainment system? Well, some pieces of information make us to consider it more precisely…
During its Anime Lineup Presentation event, on November 20, Netflix announced that ‘Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya’, a CG anime remake of Masami Kurumada’s Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac) manga, will debut next summer, and will be a “global launch”:

Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya follows modern day adventures of young warriors called “Knights”, who are sworn protectors of the reincarnated Greek goddess Athena. Each Knights wears a powerful armour based on their chosen zodiac constellation, and are called Knights of the Zodiac. They aid Athena in her battle against powerful Olympian gods who are bent on destroying the humankind.”

The series is directed by Yoshiharu Ashino at Toei Animation; Eugene Son is the story editor and head writer, Terumi Nishii the character designer, Takashi Okazaki the armour designer. Netflix recently revealed a new visual.
The anime’s first 12-episode season will feature the story from the Galaxian Wars to Silver Saints arcs of the manga.
As for Hollywood traditionally conceived, the news website last May 11th, 2017 reported  that a Hollywood live-action film based on Saint Seiya’ manga had been green-lit. Polish director Tomasz Bagiński (Oscar® nominated for the short ‘Katedra’) is directing the film; Chinese distribution company A Really Good Film Company (ARGF)’s Jeffrey Chan and Toei Animation’s Yoshi Ikezawa and Joseph Chou are serving as producers; Kurumada, Toei Animation’s Kozo Morishita, Convergence Entertainment’s Tim Kwok, and Miguel Faura are serving as executive producers. Toei Animation confirmed.
As anyone remembers, the story follows Seiya, a mortal who has trained to earn the sacred cloth of Pegasus. He joins the Saints, a group of fighters who must defend the universe and the reincarnation of the goddess Athena… The release date is yet to be defined.
