Italians in Berlin, and a few more

Berlin International Film Festival 2015 (Berlinale) begins today, February 5, and finishes on February 15. This year edition is to be presented as particularly rich of female roles and categories, and a particular focus on politics and sexual identity.
Important directors are involved, such as Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog, Terrence Malick, Pablo Larraín, Benoît Jacquot, Jafar Panahi and artists such as  Helen Mirren, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Robert Pattinson, James Franco, Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Rampling, Juliette Binoche.
As for Italy, our adventure starts with
Vergine giurata‘, by the newcomer Laura Bispuri,
and continues with
Torneranno i prati‘, by Ermanno Olmi (in the section ‘Special’),
Cloro‘, directed by Lamberto Sanfelice,
Short Skin‘, by Duccio Chiarini,
Il gesto delle mani‘, by Francesco Clerici.
It is necessary to recall that ‘ Vergine giurata’, played by Alba Rohrwacher, Lars Eidinger, Flonja Kodheli, Luan Jaha, Emily Ferratello, presented by Cinecittà Luce, is a co-production between Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Albania and Kosovo. The film, in theaters in March, is based on the book of the Albanian writer Elvira Dones (Feltrinelli) and was shot between Albania and Italy, in particular Bozen.
There is also When Italy used to eat black and white ‘, short documentary by Andrea Gropplero of Troppenburg, made with materials of the historical archive and presented in the Culinary Cinema; is a journey pleasant but rigorous in the folds of one among the excellences of Made in Italy: the kitchen.
The Italian Pavilion has been decorated with polychrome and imaginative illustrations by 19novanta agency, coordinated by the Directorate of Institutional Communication Cinecittà Luce, in collaboration with ICE and ANICA and contribution of MiBACT and DGCinema. The walls of Italy Pavilion are a kaleidoscope of suggestions that refer to the seventh art in all the elements of its symbolism: posters, scenes kept in the collective immagination, characters entered in the memory of film buffs and those who let themselves be carried away by the dream.
The Pavilion, located on the first floor of the Martin-Gropius-Bau will host, however, also the Italian Film Commission and will form a sort of reference point for activities related to our cinema; it is also foreseen a small room “video library”, with monitors and headphones.
As for television,  the section of TV stories will be open on February 9, with ‘1992’, the serie produced by Sky, starred by Stefano Accorsi and based on the scandal ‘Mani pulite’, that happened in Italy following the investigations on corruption of managers and politicians.

In Pioltello a preview was released on March 5 (UCI Cinema IMAX theater) but the mere mortals who do not live in the small town near Milan had to wait until today for the arrival of ‘Oz:The Great and Powerful’, the latest effort by Sam Raimi (Spider Man), produced and distributed by Disney.

It was shot in Digital 3D technology, comes at the same time world (for Italy in more than five hundred copies) and is, as can be imagined, a visionary and imaginative restatement of the story of the magician who made credible his own  power through deception and illusions (fortuitously happened in a beautiful kingdom, became the leader pretending to be a powerful sorcerer, so that some political readings are perhaps compatible…).

To be honest, it is a prequel to the famous fairy tale, it tells how Oscar Diggs, self-centered man of questionable morals, because Oz has become, swept away by a tornado while traveling by balloon, he met three witches who had considered the leader quoted in an ancient prophecy to defeat the evil witch.

The path of the yellow brick there will be again, is to be considered, produced by Robert Stromberg of Avatar and Alice in Wonderland; the Dorothy who will pass through it will not have the features of the legendary Judy Garland but of Rachel Weisz, while in the shoes of Oz will be James Franco.

About Franco, it seems that at the beginning the role should go to Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr., but something went wrong.

The actor, who had previously worked with Raimi said that he learned a few tricks from a true magician who works in Las Vegas and that he accepted the role because as a child he had read all the fourteen books of L. Frank Baum, which the screenplay fully respects .
