Update: more than 50 tall ships and naval vessels from navies around the world sailed in a spectacular procession from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to the George Washington Bridge, passing the Statue of Liberty in a tribute to America’s 250th anniversary.
Flying the Italian flag was the Amerigo Vespucci.
“Today, we are not just the Navy. Today, we are Italy“, said the ship’s commanding officer, Captain Nicasio Falica. His pride was unmistakable—and shared by every member of the crew—as they represented the very best of Italian excellence on one of the most significant days in America’s history.
Update: regrettably, the Washington parade was canceled owing to the exceptionally high temperatures.
