Garth Davis: Lion, Tron, and other news
It is within a complex mixture of different feelings that I come to tell that I managed to catch up Garth Davis‘ masterpiece ‘Lion’ just yesterday night, due the impossibility for me to watch it as soon as it was released, in 2016.
Based on a true story, and on all the true stories of the 80,000 children who are missed each year in India, likely to be abducted and driven to horrible dooms, ‘Lion’ is a biographical drama drawn from a screenplay by Luke Davies based on the 2013 non-fiction book ‘A Long Way Home’, by Saroo Brierley. The film stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, David Wenham and Nicole Kidman, as well as Abhishek Bharate, Divian Ladwa, Priyanka Bose, Deepti Naval, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Sunny Pawar, this last in the role of Saroo as a child.
Premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 10 October 2016, ‘Lion’ received six Oscar nominations at the 89th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Patel), Best Supporting Actress (Kidman), and Best Adapted Screenplay. It won two BAFTA Awards for Best Supporting Actor (Patel) and Best Adapted Screenplay.
